Why this blog?

Hi there,

as everyone seems to be writing blogs these days, this is going to be my blog.

Many people write about their travel adventures and what they experience abroad. This will be a little different. But first let me introduce myself.

I grew up travelling for every occasion. Be it spring, summer or autumn, we were always on the go exploring the world by car in Germany and the countries close by, on a cruise ship through the mediterranean, or hopping on a plane to visit some friends in South America, not without doing a weekend trip to the Iguazu Waterfalls of course. My mum always knew how to make a vacation interesting for me. Running around chasing the pidgeons on the Markus Place was probably not the attitude a parent would wish for, but hey, I do remember it was big and impressive and I want to go back soon. I remember Herculaneum and Pompeii as great places to wonder about in the arena where it smelled terribly like lions excrements, again a place I would like to visit again, which made me interested in history and the roman empire. Well so much for the cultural education at early child stage, but the gist is, it is important to learn how to travel and how to experience new places so that you are keen on going out and broaden your horizon.

Worklife

After I did some internships in Siberia and Austria and started to work, I have only lived abroad, mostly in the U.S., in Argentina, and Norway. I loved those adventures in different countries. I learned more about my own culture, by the way people told me, how they perceived Germany and of course I learned about different foods and different rythms of (work)life.

Most of the time I stayed in a hotel or staff house, which was called home as soon as I got there. Some places I liked better, some places I liked less. Some places felt like home the very first minute I got there, other places it took a little while for me to completely feel at home. Of course some international colleagues were always on the team, but most of the time I was surrounded by locals, who showed me around and showed me, “their” bars and “their” places to go, and “their” way of life.

Home is where your heart is

I was never homesick and enjoyed every minute of travelling. But everytime I got on the plane to fly home for a more or less short vacation, I was happy to go home, my real home, cause home is where the heart is.

This is why I would like to introduce my home to you; not only from the tourist perspective, but also from the insider perspective. With this blog, I would like to show you my country, the big and small sights, tell you about the insider tips and the classic tourist attractions you must see while beeing here. This is what I was blessed with and what I would like to give back: People who showed me their country. So let me take you by the hand and show you what my country has to offer.

Let me show you the country where I am at home and maybe, some day, you will drop your anchor here as well and call it home, because you lost your heart to the 81 million people and the 357.168 km² …. Home is where your heart is.

For you, if you would like to come to Germany or find out more about the country ... this blog is written about my home, because despite all the love I have for traveling to far away countries, home is where your heart is.
So, let me show you my country.
